technical informationSteamTab Technical InformationDesignSteamTab uses fundamental equations to calculate all steam properties with no interpolation or curve fits to raw steam data. SteamTab uses formulations that are approved the International Association of the Properties of Water and Steam (IAPWS) in 1995 for general and scientific use. This formulation is thermodynamically rigorous, accurate, and applicable over wider range of conditions. The formulations used in SteamTab are given in the following reference: ReferenceRelease on the IAPWS Formulation 1995 for the Thermodynamic Properties of Ordinary Water Substance for General and Scientific Use, The International Association for the Properties of Water and Steam, Frederica, Denmark, Sept. 1996. Note: SteamTab Duo does not include properties for ice. ImplementationThe core routines in SteamTab are written in C++ and compiled using Microsoft's Visual C++ into a standalone dynamic link library (DLL). All of the routines use double precision arithmetic (8 byte real). In addition to using standard compiler optimization techniques to speed-up calculations, SteamTab employs an innovative and proprietary "caching" strategy to minimize repetitive calculations. Our internal benchmarks indicate that these optimizations give a performance boost of 2 to 5 times over the un-optimized and "un-cached" versions. |
